smarter operations for smooth sailing cruise terminal services

When it comes to orchestrating cruise terminal operations, even a little hiccup or lag in response can whip up a storm. But such disruptions can be avoided, especially with the sea of data available to organisations these days. And that’s what the SATS-Creuers Cruise Services sought to ensure by embarking on a digital transformation initiative that would reinforce its operational agility.

Onboarding to a smart and secure solution

Delivering diverse technologies that work together simply can be complex, which is why

SATS-Creuers Cruise Services leveraged the systems engineering capabilities of NCS to bring a Smart Terminal solution to life.

The first of its kind in Asia, this puts Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore at the forefront of innovative cruise terminal services. Enabled by smart sensors, video analytics and big data, SATS-Creuers Cruise Services has a commanding view of all relevant cruise operations in real time. A central command-and-control system enabled integrated management and proactive planning of security measures, and the seamless deployment of resources.

Sensors were placed at strategic locations such as check-in terminals and baggage handling areas, providing real-time monitoring of traffic conditions and passenger flows to detect congestion. Any blip in usual operations triggers an alert to the terminal’s management and sets off a swift response to the situation.

Smooth sailing operations open a world of opportunity

Powered by big data analytics, and an integrated set of smart capabilities, the MBCCS is well-positioned to provide information to cruise lines and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to facilitate resource planning and coordination. The rigorously calibrated deployment by NCS also ensures the MBCCS elevates the passenger experience without compromising on security.

“We experienced an increase of 31% ship calls and 51% passengers handled last year,” said Lionel Wong, CEO of MBCCS. “This significant growth in cruise travel is expected to continue. Augmenting our processes with technology will help us manage the increased volume more efficiently and provide a pleasant, seamless travel experience for our passengers.”

This smart terminal solution opens the way for even larger ships to homeport in Singapore and will help ensure smooth operations as passenger volumes grow and grow.
